Kumdo Sparring Rules
Ring size: 9 - 11 meters
Ring type: Wood floor or Taekwondo Flooring
Equipment: All competitors MUST have approved Jukdo *No Athletic tape on Jukdo
All competitors MUST have proper uniform and all armour.
*If competitor does not have all equipment on, they will have ONE (1) Minute to acquire and put on missing equipment.
Match: 1 Round - 2 Minutes in length
1 Minute extension in the event of a tie.
Victory: First competitor to score 3 points.
Sudden Death (Tie): In the event of a tie the competitors will receive a 1 Minute extension of the match.
*THERE IS NO REST PERIOD BETWEEN*
The first competitor to score one point will be the declared the winner.
Judges Decision: In the event that after the 1 Minute extension is over and no points are awarded, the match will be decided by all 3 judges. The winner will need to be based on the competitors skill and attitude during the match.
How to Score: Competitor must have “an accurate strike or thrust made to the scoring zone of the opponent” using the correct section of the Jukdo. They must have correct posture, have both Mental and Physical alertness against opponent’s counterattack. Attack MUST be fully committed.
Violations / Fouls: Competitors are prohibited from the following acts.
After 3 violations have occurred that competitor will forfeit the match.

- Tripping up or sweeping of the opponent’s leg
- Unfairly shoving or pushing an opponent outside the match court
- Stepping outside the match court
- Dropping the Jukdo
- Request a “Time Out” without a justifiable reason
- Unsportsmanlike conduct, such as swearing, celebrating, whining, complaining, or talking to your opponent.
- Crying is seen as losing the will to fight and will result in the competitor forfeiting the match.
After 3 violations have occurred that competitor will forfeit the match.
Kumdo Paper Cutting Rules
DIVISIONS
Each cut will be on command from the ring Official (not continuous)
Team paper cutting: lowest score is dropped (top 3 scores added together).
Team of 4 players must be all colored belt or all black belts
Note:
• The score will depend on the accuracy and straightness of the cut.
• The cut should be within 10cm (4inch) range and causing no crinkles.
• Regardless of the success of cuts, finish all cuts according to the regulation & sheath properly.
• Use the paper cutting sword (Juk-gum), but if not available then mokgum.
COLOR BELT FINAL
2 CUTS LEFT/RIGHT OR RIGHT/LEFT (2 HORIZONTAL CUTS)
BLACK BELT 1 – 3 DAN FINAL
3 CUTS COMBINATION OF LEFT/RIGHT/LEFT OR RIGHT/LEFT/RIGHT (3 HORIZONTAL CUTS)
BLACK BELT 4 DAN & OVER FINAL
2 CUTS ONE CUT AND THEN CUT FALLING PIECE
- Any age, any belt level
- Colored belts,
- Black 1-3 Dan,
- Black 4 Dan +
